Is Online Therapy the Norm Now?
Online Counseling is Here to Stay and This is Why
Busy women taking the time to care for others but often neglecting their own needs.
How many times have you heard this? Felt this way? Do you notice or realize it until it is too late and you’ve hit burnout?
So you try your best and say you are going to start taking better care of yourself and what better way to start than going to therapy.
Those after work appointments can be a real P.I.T.A. (IYKYK) and you know these things are helpful and good for you but also sometimes it just one more thing on your plate.
Online therapy is a game changer.
Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, you didn’t hear much about online therapy as an option for treatment. In reality, online counseling was around for a few years prior to the world coming to stop but only gained traction once the world was forced with limited options. So we adjust and adapt.
I was practicing online therapy with my clients prior to COVID-19 and I can’t even imagine it not being a service I offer.
In this blog, I’m sharing why online therapy is here to stay.
I am an online therapist in North Carolina. I specialize in online counseling for women in North Carolina. I provide therapy for high achieving women needing anxiety treatment, treatment for perfectionism, therapy for imposter syndrome and burnout counseling.
In addition to providing online therapy in North Carolina, I also provide online therapy in Maryland.

3 Reasons Why Online Therapy is the Norm Now
There are many reasons why I believe online therapy is an amazing resource but check out these 4 reasons why online therapy is the norm now and is here to stay!
Reason #1 Online Therapy is the Norm: Online Therapy is Effective
Online therapy can be used to address many different mental health concerns, issues, stressors, etc. Most of my clients come to me for therapy for anxiety and to overcome burnout.
Reason #2 Online Therapy is the Norm: Online Therapy is Convenient
Long gone are the days when you would need to be out all evening trying to get to your therapy appointment after a long day and then travel across town to be there too. Now you can schedule your appointment when it best works for you. Take your appointment from the comfort of your own space and feel more relaxed. Make your therapy work for you.
Reason #3 Online Therapy is the Norm: Therapy Models are Easily Adaptable
What does this mean?
Therapists typically practice from one to a few different therapeutic models in how they treat their clients. Most of these therapy treatment styles can be easily adapted to online therapy because the therapist and client are able to both see and hear each other.
Common therapy treatment models that are used online include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), dialectal behavior therapy (DBT), eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), positive psychology, motivational interviewing therapy, mindfulness-based (MBCT), and many others.
At Calm Waters Counseling, I use a lot of mindfulness based therapy such as an ACT and CBT approach to treat anxiety, perfectionism, and burnout. In online therapy sessions, we still practice mindfulness exercises, teach and learn new skills, and process events.
