5 Signs You Need a Mental Health Day

Taking mental health days are just as important as taking sick days.

Taking care of your mental health is one of the most important things you can do for yourself, right up there with taking care of your physical health. And yet it is frequently the part of your health that can get ignored the easiest.

How often do you push yourself to the max before it just becomes too much?

Maybe your body forces it and becomes too tired or you’re sick more frequently.

On the go and living a busy life can increase stress, anxiety, and depression. It is easy to put mental health on the back burner thinking “I’ll get around to it” or googling “therapist near me” and jotting some names down but not reaching out.

5 Signs You Need a Mental Health Day

Sign #1 You Need a Mental Health Day: Having increased Anxiety

If your stress level has been kicked up a notch, chances are your anxiety has also increased too. Take some time to do something relaxing or calming.

Sign #2 You Need a Mental Health Day: Life is Consumed by Work

Having a work-life balance isn’t easy

If your workdays and your off days are being consumed by work, you could be on your way to experiencing work burnout

Feeling pessimistic about work? No longer feeling inspired, creative, or appreciated?

Check out this blog post on stages of burnout.

Sign #3 You Need a Mental Health Day: Trouble Concentrating

Difficulty keeping focus may mean that you need a break, especially if it’s happening frequently.

It's okay to take some time to yourself and spend the day doing something you enjoy and that doesn't require a lot from you.

Sign #4 You Need a Mental Health Day: Difficulty Sleeping

An increase in stress and anxiety can easily get your sleep cycle off track.

Having healthy sleep is important to your mental health care. If your sleep has been off because revenge bedtime has taken over or your worries are keeping you up at night, this could be a sign that your mental health needs some TLC.

Sign #5 You Need a Mental Health Day: Others are Concerned

Close family and friends may have expressed their concern for your wellbeing. They see how hard you work and dedicate your time and energy to others than yourself.

If they have noticed changes in you recently, I encourage you to be open to listening and taking care of yourself.

At the end of the day, there doesn’t need to be a reason or a sign to take a mental health day.

Simply put. Take the day. You deserve it.

So often sick days are saved up and go unused. You earned the time and deserve a day.

It doesn’t have to be justified.
