Recognition and emphasis on the importance of mental health has grown immensely over the past few years and there is still a ways to go.

So often others don’t seek help because they downplay their mental health, believe they have to fight through whatever their pain is, or let feelings of fear and embarrassment stop them from seeking help. The more mental health is talked about and normalized the more open and comfortable others will be with getting support and help.

In this blog, I’m sharing with you 5 ways you can help to break the mental health stigma.

I am an online therapist Wilmington, NC, and specialize in therapy for anxious high-achieving women. I provide anxiety treatment and focus on other topics such as perfectionism and burnout.

5 Ways You Can End Mental Health Stigma

Doing your part to help end mental health stigma is crucial to breaking down the walls. Once you begin your own path to ending mental health stigma, it can create a ripple effect and reach so many others too.

Check out these 5 ways you can start to end mental health stigma.

Get involved in local organizations focused on mental health

What better place to start than in your own community? Take some time to learn about the different community organizations that provide support and help to others.

Get to know the resources in your own backyard. Once you get some information, you can take it a step further and volunteer or help out in other ways.

Have conversations with others about mental health

One of the biggest steps you can take to help end mental health stigma is simply by having conversations with others.

Check in on your friends and family. Talk about feelings and normalize feelings, we all have them. We all experience stress, sadness, anxiety, etc.

Start your own therapy

Maybe your way of creating the ripple effect is by starting your own process in therapy.

Learn the facts about mental health

Educating yourself on general mental health knowledge can have a big impact. Be informed so that when you talk with others you can give correct information.

Set the Example with Compassion

This goes across the board from being compassionate towards yourself in the midst of hard moments and days, compassionate towards others who might be dealing with mental health issues.

Lead by example.
