Start Your Day Feeling Good and Grounded with These Daily Habits

So which category do you fall into? Are you an early bird or night owl?

As a naturally anxious person, the old saying “the early bird catches the worm” put the FOMO in me before I even knew what the heck FOMO meant. Come to think of it maybe this phrase and the game of Perfection is what kicked my anxiety into overdrive as a kiddo.

(I kid I kid…kinda)

The reality is for a long time I considered myself more of a night owl.

I now think that was some kind of revenge bedtime procrastination stuff before we actually had a name for it though.

I have since transitioned into a morning person. I found it to be better overall for my anxiety and self-care. I also realized some daily morning habits can be helpful to start your day off to either boost your mood or help you feel more productive.

5 Helpful Morning Habits to Start Day

Mornings can sometimes be a rough start, especially if you are not a morning person. Check out these 5 helpful morning habits to help boost your mood and increase productivity.

1) Make your bed

Hopefully, you didn’t hear a mom's voice telling you that you need to do your chores. Being able to take a few minutes to make your bed in the morning can be a nice form of self-care.

Not only is it proven that most people function more effectively in a cleaner more organized space but it can be a small step forwards in taking action.

My clients are very familiar with me saying of taking small action steps can lead to bigger things.

2) Have a routine

If possible, try to get up each day around the same time. Help your internal system recognize and develop a routine. It can make morning less of a dread if you can be more consistent. So sit your alarm across the room so you can’t hit the snooze button.

3) Set an intention for the day

What is something you want to accomplish for the day?

We can’t control what will happen to us during the day but we can always choose how we want to handle what we encounter.

Setting an intention for the day can help you to refocus and remind you of what is important.

4) Get some inspiration

Is there a quote you love, a bible verse that speaks to you, or music that makes you feel good? How about checking out a website dedicated to good news only?

Whatever it is that makes you feel good and can inspire you, engage with it in the morning to help set your tone for the day.

5) Allow yourself some extra time

This is a big one y’all! If nothing else on this list speaks to you, do yourself a favor and allow yourself extra time in the morning.

This can save you from the stress and anxiety of rushing around, allowing for random things outside of your control (traffic, car problems, making an extra stop on the way to work), or a few extra minutes of planning your day and settling in once you get to work.

So which of these tips are you going to try this week?
